A Note From The President
Mike Russell

I hope all our members have penciled in June 2, 2007 at 10:00 AM, the date and time of our Summer Semi-Annual Meeting. Local 501 has had a great response ever since the Local began firing up our popular barbeque. Since a majority of the membership live more than ten miles away from our 2405 West Third Street location, it’s nice to know you can have a bite to eat before heading home after the meeting. Thanks, Jim, and thanks 501 staff and members.

Another subject to discuss is on-the-job safety, which concerns all of us and our employers. In California and Nevada, the maintenance industry recently had tragic and preventable on-the-job accidents — two were certified divers who died at work in California and two were maintenance workers from the Las Vegas area.

Everyone’s goals should be the same—to do a good job and to go home intact at the end of the day. Training and education greatly assists in the prevention of accidents: Be trained — Get educated.

On a lighter note, by the time you receive this newsletter, Mr. Mark Fullner will be officially retired. Having garnered over 30 years in the business as a Worker Bee, Business Representative and President, Mark is now known as “Retiree.” He won’t be gone, he won’t be forgotten; he is just retired. He hasn’t given up on Jeeps and wandering in the desert. In fact, rumor control says he found Harley Davidson. We all know what H.D. stands for—and he will find out too! Good luck, Mark, and keep riding; whether it’s two wheels or four, it’s all fun.
